Financial aid

Office of Biomedical Graduate Programs at Wayne State University School of Medicine are committed to providing the best graduate education and biomedical research training possible. As part of this pledge, qualified students pursuing the Ph.D. in the School of Medicine are offered substantial financial support. The financial package includes three full years of nationally competitive stipend support, full tuition and fees, and a subsidized health and dental insurance plan. In practice, available support frequently carries students through to the completion of their degree. The School endeavors to generate support for all qualified full-time doctoral students.

This support may derive from several sources, including Graduate Research Assistantships, University Fellowships, Graduate Traineeships, and individual Investigator Research Grants. The various forms of financial support are limited in number and are awarded on a competitive basis.

An annual stipend and fringe benefits package is awarded to all qualified Ph.D. graduate students enrolled at Wayne State University School of Medicine. In addition to the standard stipend amount, applicants with exceptional academic and experiential backgrounds may be eligible for a number of enhancements to the base stipend ranging from $2,000 $5,000. Contact the program director of your desired program for additional details. As a supported student, in addition to coursework, you spend approximately 20 hours per week in research, or related duties. All applicants are automatically considered for financial assistance, and no additional application forms are necessary.
